Suicide is one subject that weights heavily on my heart. For someone to say, “there is no way out,” means they feel trapped in a corner and there are no possible solutions to any of the problems they are facing. And that simply isn’t true.
What makes greatness?
A long time ago I learned a valuable lesson. A word can have a different definition to many different people. If I posed the question, “Are you committed to your church?” Out of the people who answered yes, some might be at church everyday of the week working and/or cleaning. Others might just might have been there every Sunday for the past 10 years. And yet others say yes because they go there once a month and give offerings at that church.
All of these people say they are committed. Are they lying? Of course not. They all just have a different meaning of the word commitment. And I submit to you it goes the same for the word greatness.
Countering Inadequacy
In Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus said that you are the salt and light of this world.
You are called to do something great with your life. There is a reason why you are here, to be the salt and the light of this world. Sadly enough, many of us aren’t living up to this. Even worse, it has nothing to do with not having the potential to.
The Significant You: Finding Your Significance
In part one of this series we talked about the definition of significance. We talked about what real significance means. This time I want to talk about how you can find your significance.
You have a gift inside of you. You have something special about you that no one else does.
It’s something that separates who you are. But what is it? (more…)
Are You Ready to Get Off The Nail?
A story was once told to me. One day as I was walking down the road I saw a dog laying on the porch of a man’s house. As I approached the man I heard the dog wimpering like he was in pain. So I asked the man, “What’s wrong with the dog?” He told me that the dog was laying on a nail. I stood there shocked at first and then proceeded to ask him, “Well if it’s hurting him, why doesn’t he get off the nail?” And the man replied and said, “Because it’s hurts more to get off the nail than to just continue laying on it.”
The Color of Our Thoughts
I was listening to an old recording of a sales seminar made back in the 30’s or 40’s. It’s called the strangest secret. It’s main idea is that we are what we think. Now this saying has passed many circles and has been said in many different ways. The bible says, “As a man thinks in his heart so is he.” A Cesar of Rome said it like this, “The soul becomes dyed with the color of its thoughts.”
You and I are the products of not only our choices but our ideas and thoughts. (more…)
The Significant You: Defining Significance
A lot of us have grown up watching television, the actors and actresses, seeing famous people, having a desire to be like that. Why are we like that? Its because we have a desire to be significant. We each have this desire (whether we want to admit it or not) to have significance in our lives and communities.
