The Definition of Family

“It is often said that ‘the reactions of a person result as a byproduct of their environment.’ The origin of environment, beyond the textbook meaning, is the family. ” said H.L. Belton Jr.  I couldn’t agree more with that.

Youth, especially today, are filled with insecurities, questions, hopes and dreams.  There needs to be an environment where they can feel secure, comfortable, and be able to express themselves.  That place needs to be at home, where the family is.

The definition of the family can be found in the role of the family.  The family is there to help and support each other.

The children and youth by giving them the sense of belonging they long for.  By giving them identity.  By showing them the proper way to grow up into adulthood and raise a family.   Youth and children need these things and therefore it is up to the parents to create an environment where these things can flourish.

The parents also need to work together to raise the children.  They need to communicate and express their ideas with each other and present a unified front in front of their children to show them that they are in unity in everything.

Above all, youth and children need to know that blood will always be thicker than water.  Children and youth need to learn to count on their family in times of happiness so in times of crises they know where to go.

Our kids’ lives are shaped by what we say and do.  They get a basis for their morals, attitude and actions from watching us.  I know that not every family is perfect and some families don’t have fathers and there are single parents out there working two jobs to support the family.  I understand that.  But the things I am talking about don’t take but 10 minutes each day to create.

The Japanese have something called constant quality improvement.  What they do is in their lives focus on one thing, even if it works fine, and try to improve it by one percent each day.  It’s not that much but after a year its been improved 365%.

I challenge you to do the same thing.  Try to improve your relationship with your spouse or children by 1% each day.  I guarantee you’ll see results. “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6
