In part one of this series we talked about the definition of significance. We talked about what real significance means. This time I want to talk about how you can find your significance.
You have a gift inside of you. You have something special about you that no one else does.
It’s something that separates who you are. But what is it?
Your significance is the God-given gift inside of you. Think about what you are just naturally good at. If you are having trouble listing it or narrowing it down. Take out a piece of paper. Divide it into three columns and in the first column write at the top “Things you hate.” The next column should be labeled “Things you like,” and the next “Things you love.”
Now take about 5 or 10 minutes and write things in each column. For example, one of the things I hate is cleaning. One of the things I like is art. Somethings I love are people, talking, writing, and video.
From the things that I love we can see that my significance has something to do with communication. And as you start to see the things that you love being grouped together you will start to find your significance, just as I did. Once we know what our significance is we then need to start to develop it so we then can apply it to our lives.
I believe that the gifts that you have inside of you were intended for two things. One is to help the people around you. The other is to help provide for you and your family. Just as an artist sells his work to get money, you too can sharpen the gifts inside of you to earn a living. Just as a counselor uses her gift to help people going through hard times, you too can use your gift to help people in your own way.
I’m going to continue in this series with the next step on “Developing The Gift in You” in the following weeks
